IMPORTANT: New Form I-9 Available

The newest version of the Form I-9 was recently published by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). The form, used by HR to verify employment eligibility, will be mandatory beginning May 1, 2020. “Employers may use either the 07/17/17 N or the 10/21/2019 version until Apr. 30.,” the agency said. “On May 1, employers must use the revised form with a revision date of 10/21/19 N.” Current storage and retention rules have not changed. Please refer to our “Tips for Retaining and Storing the New Form I-9”. Employers should be aware that this does not automatically prompt employers to re-verify existing employees – employees should only be reverified when their employment authorization/employment authorization documentation expires or when any of the these listed conditions apply: https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/complete-correct-form-i-9/completing-section-3-reverification-and-rehires
