To help ensure that the minimum wage keeps pace with the rising cost of living, many states and municipalities adjust (or will adjust) their minimum wage rates annually. The following state and local changes go into effect on January 1st, 2020. Below you will find our compiled state, local, and federal minimum wage charts:

Today, the federal minimum wage is set at $7.25 per hour, where it's been since 2009. The law requires non-exempt (employees who are paid hourly) to receive no less than that amount for each hour worked:
- $5.15 - Sept. 1, 1997
- $5.85 - July 24, 2007
- $6.55 - July 24, 2008
- $7.25 - July 24, 2009
