This week, the HR Form of the Week is a Personal Leave Approval Letter.

A personal leave of absence, often simply referred to as a “personal leave,” is a period of time during which an employee may take a temporary break from work. This type of leave is usually granted for personal reasons that fall outside of protected leave reasons and leaves such as the federal Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) or any state-specific equivalent, pregnancy and childbirth, sick leave/disability, bereavement etc.

Personal leaves of absence are generally unpaid, can vary in duration, ranging from a few days to several months, depending on the situation and the policies of the organization. For examples of a personal leave of absence policy, please visit the Guardian HR Forms Library Leaves of Absence folder and access the folder “Personal & Sabbatical Leave”.

It’s important to note that the specifics of personal leave, including its duration, return to work requirements, benefit information etc. are clearly outlined to the employee. This week’s HR Form of the Week provides such framework in form of a template letter.
